I was born in the West Indies on the island of Dominica, in 1973.  My Family immigrated to Ontario, Canada when I was 18 months old and lived there for 8 years in Halton Hills near Guelph.  My Father worked as a hired hand on a dairy farm initially, and that was where my interest in agriculture started.  My family then moved to 1982 to Edmonton and completed all my schooling here.  In 1994, I attended Grant MacEwan College for 2 years, and in 1998 I completed my BSc in Animal Science at the University of Alberta.  I completed my Masters of Science, in Poultry, in 2000. My Thesis was entitled “Broiler performance and carcass characteristics at different stocking densities, ventilation rates, air speeds and levels of bird disturbances”.

For the last 4 years, I have been working at Cargill Animal Nutrition as a sales consultant/Poultry Team Leader for the Western Canada.  I’ve been married for 15 years to my high school sweetheart,  Michele. We have 2 kids, Isaiah and Hali.  In my spare time I coach various sports that my kids play, enjoy gardening and an avid fisherman.

Former undergraduate student in plant science

I grew up in Southern Ontario just outside Toronto.  I always had an interest in pursuing science, but was never sure where it would take me.  So I decided to keep my options open and completed my B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Waterloo in 2007.  I considered applying to medical and pharmacy school toward the end of my undergraduate studies.  Ultimately I decided that I was interested in researching pathogenic bacteria with the end goal to obtain an FSO-type position at a University.  I moved to Edmonton to pursue grad school at the University of Alberta with Dr. Stefan Pukatzki studying the Type VI Secretion System of Vibrio cholerae.  Nearing the completion of my Ph.D I considered post-doctoral positions and also applied for three jobs.  I was fortunate to be hired for the job that was my top choice - as the research director at CanBiocin.  I defended my Ph.D and started with CanBiocin in July 2013 where I am leading a project for developing a novel probiotic product for canines.
