ABOUT

ABCampus is a student group at the U of A focused on providing students with professional and career development as well as entrepreneurial opportunities. Our aim is to connect students with each other, across disciplines, as well as with industry professionals, to help foster relationships on campus and between students and industry. Through collaboration with professionals and students, we hope to support professional and career development of students.

ABCampus envisions a province of post-secondary students who have built lasting relationships and created professional opportunities, and who are aware of all the opportunities available to them.

CONFERENCE GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Resource and Skill Development

  • Provide opportunities to develop and enhance networking skills.

  • Expand and promote existing skill sets with an emphasis on transferable skills

  • Share, discuss, and provide resources that assist in the job search (ie. gain insight around the Canadian and International job search landscape)

Career Path Planning

  • Provide resources that assist in career planning

  • Outline degree-specific steps involved in career planning and acquisition

Individuals are looking to both develop skills to assist in their job search, while also keeping an eye out for potential job opportunities. Therefore, the primary and secondary objectives of this conference are:

Primary Objectives:

  • To identify skills that will assist in the job search process, and

  • To prepare students for employment opportunities outside of academia by outlining how these skills may be developed.

Secondary Objectives:

  • To interact with individuals holding positions outside of academia who provide insight into the career planning, search and application process.

  • To build professional networks with these individuals that assist in finding, acquiring, and developing present and future career goals.

WHO IS THIS CONFERENCE FOR?

The conference targets all graduate students on campus. ABCampus believes that one of the best ways to support student growth and development is through active involvement in developing programming rather than just passive attendance.  Students need to and are able to identify gaps that exist in current programming. Finding a solution to fill these gaps not only creates relevant programing for other students, but also provides those willing to take the initiative with invaluable experience. As such, for an event like this, it is important we get involvement from as many students from as many departments as possible in the planning stage.
